Today Blizzard announced Cross – Realm Zones for the upcoming expansion. This seemed to elicit a lot of mixed feelings from the community, many are unsure whether or not it’s a good idea.
I feel like this could be a really great change, especially for any incoming new players. Think about it – think back to when you started playing WoW. For many of you it’s probably about the same time a lot of other people started playing WoW, so as you leveled up you had plenty of people to group with and run around doing things with.
This was not the case for me. I started playing WoW during Wrath of the Lich King, and while I saw a few players here and there, leveling up a fourth alt, the fact of the matter is if I hadn’t had my husband (then boyfriend) to play with I would have been a very lonely Hunter.
Cross – Realm Zones will not only be healthy for those of us leveling up our sixth alt, but it will be healthy for those players who are new to the game. Many new players now probably feel lost, they don’t have as much help as they might in a newer game. No one is around to show them the ropes. Sure with the introduction of the dungeon finder new players had that option, but often times when leveling up you have group quests you’re unable to finish or you simply just want the companionship. In my opinion this brings the very community aspect back into the game that many of us seem to miss.
In addition, for those of you who PvP, this brings back an aspect to the World that has been gone for quite a while. That is of course, world PvP. I know for many who PvP this is something that has been long missed. I’m sure many of you will be glad for its imminent return….I know I’m not!
Lastly this can really help lower population servers, since they’re already pretty empty anyway – this makes lower level areas especially empty where sometimes you might not encounter someone for the entirety of your leveling experience below 70. I feel like this will definitely help alleviate this issue, even on higher population servers you might only encounter one person in each zone you happen to be in.
In my opinion this change is absolutely fantastic. Not only will it re-populate some stale areas, but it will also bring more sense of community to the game, and it will help drive new players to keep playing once they have friends to play with.
What are your thoughts on this new feature?

/ May 13, 2012I think its for 1-60 ( I could be incorrect and I would suggest blizz adding wrath to it) which can help give you more interaction with others. Sadly this interaction needs blizzard to bring back the group quest. Even the remaining few are easily done with heirlooms.
Im also hoping it does not become a ganking fest for the pvp servers. I can see the high levels ganking the multiple people questing there for fun. One good thing this can inspire a large pvp fight by people logging on mains.
My only concern is how it might affect the economy via gathering mats. Yes i know blizzard can make nodes spawn more often or even less. They can also make the zone have multiple different “server groups” so its not as crowded. Yet either way the economy will be touched one way or the other. TIme will only tell.
